Gettysburg ghosts are big attraction

gettysburg.jpg

UNITED STATES.
Ghosts have never been more popular. The public seems to have an insatiable appetite for a phenomenon that is largely invisible and whose reality has yet to be confirmed by science.

Evidence for this – apart from the many television programmes with “Ghost” in the title – is the recent action taken by the borough of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to control the numbers taking part in ghost walks in the town.

Its public safety committee has been holding talks with tour operators to introduce new rules, including one which will limit the number of participants on each walk to 15 people, and impose a distance of 500 feet between each tour group.

Gettysburg, which will be home to the Ghost World Conference and Supernatural Symposium (20-22 July), has made its ghosts a major tourist attraction. Most are said to be associated with the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War on 1-3 July, 1863.
