Psychic predicted missing Shannon was alive

ShannonMatthews.jpegENGLAND. When psychic Joe Power gave a reading to the mother and stepfather of English schoolgirl Shannon Matthews, he made three statements that have since proved to be accurate. They included the prediction that she was with someone known to the couple and that she was alive.

What’s more, these statements were made seven days before the nine-year-old was found, were witnessed by national newspaper reporters and published in advance.

Shannon disappeared after leaving school in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, on 19 February, resulting in one of the biggest UK searches for a missing child in recent years. With the passage of time, fears grew that she was dead, but Joe Power was adamant that she was still alive.

ShannonParents.jpegFirst, the daily tabloid The Mirror published a story on 6 March headlined “Missing Shannon Matthews’ mum told by psychic: You know the person she’s with”. Without naming Joe Power as the psychic involved, it revealed that Karen Matthews, 32, and her partner Craig Meehan, 22 (left), had been told: “She was taken by someone you both know.” The psychic reassured them that she was still alive.

Power1.jpeg The People (a Mirror sister publication) identified Power, 41 (right), as the psychic on Sunday 9 March, and carried a photograph of him with Karen Matthews. It reported that he had been told by the spirit world that Shannon had got into a car near her school. He gave various details about the car.

On 14 March – 24 days after she went missing – police broke into a first floor flat a mile from her home, after neighbours had reported hearing a child, and found Shannon in the base of a divan bed.

Reporting the safe return of Shannon, The People (16 March) said he came up with vital clues “which could have led to her discovery”. It confirmed he had told the newspaper:
  • Shannon knew her abductor, who was a relative possibly named Michael or Paul.
  • She had sat on this man’s knee at a family funeral.
  • An area named Batley is involved in her disappearance.
Mick Donovan, also known as Paul Drake, was arrested at the address in Batley Carr, Dewsbury, where Shannon was found. He is an uncle of Shannon’s stepfather.

Speaking to Southport’s Champion newspaper (18 March), Joe Power elaborated on the reading he gave at Shannon’s home. Craig Meehan left the room, though Joe commented, “I just got this sense that she should stay.” He went on:

“I said to Karen, ‘Do you know a Mick or Michael?’ and she mentioned somebody else, so I said, ‘No, he’s connected to Craig.’ So I touched on who it was six days before she was found.

It has to be emphasised that, as far as we can tell, none of the psychic clues provided by Joe Power led to the discovery of Shannon. It is curious, however, that such specific statements did not lead the police, or family members, to identify the person who was holding her.

Reporters from The People corroborated the psychic’s statements, said Champion, and had passed all his information to police.

Power Lazarus.jpgJoe Power is currently on a nationwide UK tour with fellow psychic Diane Lazarus, winner of TV’s Psychic Challenge. Last year, Diane went to Portugal in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the whereabouts of missing Madeleine McCann (below right).

Power, however, has told Champion newspaper that he knows where Madeline was taken after she was snatched from the holiday apartment in Portugal.

“I would have a good instinct of where that little girl is,” he said. “I got a picture of the location where the police should be searching.

“When Madeleine was taken from the hotel she was taken to a house which isn’t far away and her DNA would be there.”

Before the Shannon Matthews case, Joe Power was best known as the medium who agreed to communicate with Beatle John Lennon on a subscription TV show.
