Spirit communication by e-mail?

G_Schwartz.jpgARIZONA, UNITED STATES. Psychology professor Gary Schwartz, whose Human Energy Systems Laboratory in the Department of Psychology at the University of Arizona has been conducting mediumship studies for a number of years, is about to embark on a new phase of research which he describes as “super controversial”.

He is now recruiting psychics – some of those involved in earlier studies, such as Alison DuBois, have recently resigned – who will attempt to provide evidence of life after death via e-mail.

Schwartz explains that the mediums involved won’t know any details about the dead person other than his or her name. It will have been supplied by a living relative or friend to a researcher, who will have previously interviewed that person about the deceased.
In other words, researchers will act as go-betweens so that the mediums and “sitters” are not in direct contact, thus eliminating any visual or audial signs that sceptics argue are often the source of clues in personal readings.

The unambiguous questions will relate to appearance, cause of death and similar characteristics or events. Participants will then be shown lists of answers and asked to select the one closest to what they would expect if the medium was in contact with the spirit of their loved one.

Prof Schwartz and others involved in the Veritas Research Programme will then analyse the results to assess the accuracy – or otherwise – of the mediums.
