Jane Seymour saw doctors battling to save her life

JaneSeymour4jpg.jpgUNITED STATES. While filming a movie about operatic diva Maria Callas in Spain, British film star Jane Seymour – who now lives in the United States with her husband and six children – became ill on the set and was given an antibiotic. Instead of benefitting from the drug, however, the beautiful actress went into anaphylactic shock and was rushed to hospital.

What happened was described in a dramatic account she gave in Kalamazoo last week to the Council of Michigan Foundation’s 34th annual conference, at which she was the keynote speaker.

“The next thing I knew, I had no feeling of panic or pain,'' Seymour said in a luncheon address for more than 350 on Tuesday, and reported by Kalamazoo Gazette. “I had left my body, and I was looking down from above the hospital room, and I could see everything that had gone wrong.''

She said she saw doctors and nurses running around trying to save her life. She also saw the white light and much else that others have claimed to see during near-death experiences (NDEs), including a presence that appeared ready to take her.

“I wasn't ready to go,” she added. “I knew that I had a great deal more I wanted to do. I said, ‘Whoever you are, I believe in you, and I won’t waste the rest of my time on this earth.’ I realised the only thing you take with you when you leave is the love you feel for people and the love they feel for you and what you did to make a difference.”

JaneAndChristopher.jpgUnsurprisingly, givn the impact of the NDE which happened when she was in her 30s, the actress, now 55, emphasised the importance of giving, particularly to organisations that focus on at-risk children.

Seymour spends the majority of her time these days painting, writing books and advocating for children’s rights. But she still finds time to make movies. In recent years, she is perhaps best-known for her role on the hit CBS television series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

JaneAsJenny2.jpgA number of the films in which she has had leading roles have had paranormal themes. Somewhere In Time, in which she starred oppositive Christopher Reeves (above left, and top) 20 years ago, was one of them, with a subtle reincarnation storyline, and has become a cult classic.

More recently, she appeared in an Americanised version of Jenny Cockell’s remarkable true-life story of remembering a past life in Ireland as Mary Sutton and returning to reunite the Sutton children. The made-for-television movie had the same title as Jenny’s original book, Yesterday’s Children, and Jane Seymour played the part of Jenny Cockell (pictured, right, re-enacting the discovery of Mary Sutton's grave).
