This newly-created website has been established to monitor claims about a range of paranormal topics and the people involved, including mediums, psychics and others who apparently have special powers.
In providing this information, however, we would remind visitors that such claims have to be examined closely – not taken on trust. Fraudsters operate in all walks of life and the world of the paranormal almost certainly attracts more than its fair share. Be wary. Analyse the information you read or receive and make your own judgment.
One good aspect of Spiritualism – a religion that also has many faults – is that the mediums who demonstrate in its churches provide evidence for the after-life through spirit communication. In other words, it endeavours to be an evidence-based religion. It has no bible and even its Seven Principles allow its followers freedom to interpret them in their own way.
It has no "holy book", either, to guide those who are attracted by its spirit-based approach to life, preferring instead to allow the teachings of various spirit guides influence the way in which individuals lead their lives.
This has always seemed to me a far better way of seeking spiritual enlightenment – even if it leaves some people confused and uncertain – than being told that the answers to everything in this life and the next are to be found in holy scripture, whether it be the Bible, the Koran or any one of the many other alternatives which purport to contain God's word, and which over the years have been mistranslated, misquoted or selectively picked apart in order to "justify" the actions or beliefs of splinter groups.
There are 19 major world religious groupings, according to the Religious Tolerance Organisation, which are subdivided into 10,000 distinct religions. They can't all be right, of course. And many of them are probably doing good by providing a framework for living, without which their adherents may feel there is no meaning in their life.
But beliefs ought to be based on something more tangible and solid.
Some of the news reports we will be carrying on www.ParanormalReview.com will suggest that a spiritual dimension interacts with our physical world and that it does so regardless of (or even in spite of) one's beliefs. It should encourage us to open up to new realities and discard the outmoded belief systems that now have very little relevance in modern life.
Two examples of this are currently to be found in our News list.
The first relates to the remarkable mediumship of an old friend of mine, George Chapman, who spent 60 years of his life as the channel for the spirit of a dead doctor, William Lang.
The second concerns film star Glenn Ford whose memories of what appear to have been past lives containing some startling elements.
Those with strong religious beliefs may be tempted to dismiss such stories because they do not equate with the teachings they embrace. My hope is that they might be persuaded – faced with the evidence provided in these and other cases – that it is their former belief systems that need to be discarded, to be replaced with a more enlightened outlook on our nature, potential and destiny.
Who knows, perhaps if enough people decide to abandon their long-held
but divisive beliefs and replace them with an all-embracing view of the human race sharing a common spiritual destiny, we could all be far more optimistic about the future prospect for life on Earth.
