For decades, Prof Sorpong Peou believed his father to be dead – executed by the Khmer Rouge. But a vivid dream and the insistence of a psychic have led the family to an emotional reunion in their home country, Cambodia. Peou, who is Chairman of the Politics Department at Winnipeg University, Manitoba, Canada, told his story to Winnipeg Free Press on Monday, followed by an interview on Thursday with Canada's CTV morning news programme. Dream premonition in 'UFO X-files'

As if UFOs weren't mysterious enough, the latest batch of previously confidential files to be released by Britain's Ministry of Defence (MoD) contain two unexpected items. The first is an enquiry about a psychic, Chris Robinson (right) who dreamed of a terrorist attack on an RAF base near London. The second is a letter that claims Sir Winston Churchill, when informed of an RAF jet's close encounter with a UFO, insisted that it should be kept from the public. What are we to make of these?

Psychic octopus scores again

I’ve just watched Spain beat Germany 1-0 in the World Cup semi-final in Durban. The result was no surprise: it was what Paul the psychic octopus predicted. He has apparently been a keen supporter of the German team, having predicted the team’s results with 100 per cent accuracy over their past five fixtures. He was right again tonight, but this time he predicted defeat for Germany – a very brave thing to do for an octopus living in the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre, Germany. Spain now go through to the final against Netherlands on Sunday. It says much about the quality of this World Cup’s matches that Paul the psychic octopus has been in the news more than some of the top players. Government pays respects to the dead in a virtual world

A government department has decided to extend its responsibilities from this world to the next by launching a £100,000 memorial website which will require annual running costs of £78,000. It will give friends and relatives the opportunity to set up a page for deceased people on which they can pay tributes and make offerings. I learned about this unusual government involvement in matters of life and death during a visit to Hong Kong from which I have just returned. Ancient and modern beliefs happily co-exist, without apparent conflict, in this former British colony.... more

Psychic's execution delayed ... or waived?

Ali Sibat, the Middle East psychic who has been languishing in a Saudi Arabian prison for almost two years awaiting a death sentence to be carried out, was due to be beheaded on Good Friday. According to a BBC news report on 1st April, the Lebanese Justice Minister had been in dialogue with the Saudi government about the sentence, on which I reported back in December. It seems these discussions have borne fruit, resulting in - at the very least - a postponement of the barbaric sentence on the 49-year-old father of five.
