Acorah stoops low to contact Michael Jackson on TV

Derek Acorah
Regular visitors to this website will know that I lambasted Christian von Lähr for his claim to have “channelled” Michael Jackson on the popular American “Coast to Coast AM” radio show.
I described it as a charade that was disrespectful to the memory of “the King of Pop” and demeaning for Spiritualism and mediumship. Von Lähr protested at my comments but has said nothing to change my mind.
Now comes news that I find even more sickening.
British medium Derek Acorah has signed a deal with Rupert Murdoch’s Sky1 HD to take part in two shows in November: Michael Jackson: The Live Séance and Michael Jackson: The Search For His Spirit.
According to Sky’s publicity, the programmes “aim to give fans a final chance to connect to their hero”.
What utter garbage!
If they believe that the spirit of Jackson can be contacted, why would this be “a final chance” to do so? Where do they think he’ll be going after his chat with Acorah, a medium whose histrionic antics on Most Haunted have given mediumship a bad name in many people’s eyes?
His involvement in these two new programmes should ensure that whatever credibility he had managed to retain – particularly after he was shown to have “dressed up” planted information as a spirit message on one of the Most Haunted episodes – will quickly evaporate.
I thought, after the abysmal televised séance attempt to contact the spirit of Princess Diana a few years ago, that TV companies (and mediums, for that matter) would not stoop so low again. But I have been proved wrong. Acorah has stooped lower than ever.
Television is about entertaining audiences and if some viewers find such stage-managed “experiments” fun to watch, then that’s their prerogative.
But I think it is totally wrong for individuals who profess to be Spiritualist mediums to agree to assist in such programmes. I say that because no medium – including Acorah – can guarantee to contact a particular spirit.
He – and Sky – might retort that it is no more than an attempt to contact Michael Jackson, but what TV production company is going to underwrite such an endeavour, unless it was sure of a result?
And, let’s face it, Acorah’s the sort of chap who can apparently do that with ease. His theatrics in a night-time vigil in Cairo’s museum, where he claimed to see the “energy” of a long-dead pharaoh, are among the funniest moments I’ve ever seen on television. Except, of course, they were not meant to be funny.
I dread to think how he’ll behave if he is “overshadowed” or even “entranced” by Michael Jackson.
The sight of Derek Acorah moon-walking whilst singing “Heal The World” may even eclipse his Egyptian shenanigans.
Actually, “Bad” would be a more appropriate song for him to be communicating, because that’s exactly what it is. A bad idea and one that will confirm, in many people’s minds, that there is no end to how low some mediums will stoop in order to achieve fame and fortune.
If Derek Acorah and Sky have a shred of decency in them, they should drop these tasteless programmes immediately and look for a more reputable way of earning a living.

Derek was painful to watch on Most Haunted, “Rick Edles,” Sam and the spirit persons not withstanding. Ghost Town was a total embarrassment. I’m sure he will sink to impossibly low depths contacting MJ. Surprising someone who professes to be psychic isn’t aware what a total idiot they look.
It is beneath contempt that Acorah should bring mediumship to this level and by so doing denigrate the outstanding mediumship of Estelle Roberts, Helen Hughes etc.
He should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.
As long as there are people who believe and there are people who see a way to make a “profit”, there will always be people like him. I can’t even write his name. It makes it that much harder to bring the fringe into the mainstream. It’s disgusting
Dereck Acorah–non-de-plume–is only interested in making more money? Having published several books, and is now a very wealthy man,and therefore, any controversy,is going to further swell his bank balance! So bring on the mugs, and of whom “will soon be parted from their money!”Even in ecclesiastical circles–also big business–we are urged not to dabble in the occult!! I wonder why?? Moreover, there is fairly recent legislation that has been brought forth, and where all ’sooth-sayers’, clairvoyants, mediums, phrenologists, psychics and the like, must by law sign a disclaimer, for reasons of entertainment, ie, and apart from the gullible of whom claim a certain comfort in being put in touch with a deceased loved one! Touche! If a certain satisfaction is derived from fairy stories? So be it! Provided the mugs ‘aint ripped-off too much! Incidentally, my mother who has been dead for nearly thirty years, and promised that if there was an afterlife, she would come back to tell me. Suffice it to say, I am still waiting!

I agree with your comments about Acorah. However, your other comments regarding mediumship are misinformed. There is a vast amount of research from highly reputable sources gathered over the last 150 years or so. It cannot be so easily dismissed.
The law does not require mediums to state their services are for entertainment purposes only. Some use this as a device in an attempt to avoid prosecution. Most mediums provide information which is interpreted by the sitter. I think it would probably be quite difficult to convict a medium who wasn’t truly attempting to defraud people. Only those who are truly fraudulent, ie deliberately intending to defraud, have anything to fear and the usual rules of evidence will apply to any who are prosecuted.
As far as your mother is concerned, I would be interested to know what steps you have taken to contact her yourself? I can see two immediate problems 1) I have yet to find a medium who is capable of providing evidence I would accept as categorical proof, though many others have – I don’t think there are many mediums who can do this consistently, if at all – this will limit the likelihood of communication; 2) Your own attitude may affect ease of communication. You don’t sound very open-minded to me.
The lack of communication could, of course, be because there is no afterlife, however, it isn’t the only explanation by a long chalk.
There are many things going on in the world at the moment, which would cause a saint to cry. People killing each other over oil and religion. Greed, racism and crime scar even the most peaceful of communities and then we have individuals like this man, to remind us just how low a human being can go in order to gain wealth.
This man and the television company driving him, must clearly have no conscience what-so-ever, to be able to assume that they can sully the death of any human being in the name of ‘Entertainment’, without a thought for the damage he might be doing to his family.
Utterly shameless! Well done Sky
As a Spiritualist Medium, who has worked the circuit for 20 years,I fear that Derek has lost his way.
It seems that his undoubted original gift has been sacrificed to the need for fame and public adulation.
His love of showmanship and sensationalism brings mediumship into disrepute. He should remember who he is working for! Mediums are born to serve for the greater good of mankind.
